Important Information for Patients and Visitors

You may be aware that Legionella pneumophila was recently identified at BID Needham. Legionella is a rare cause of infection in hospitalized patients and may be acquired from water sources.

The health and safety of our patients, visitors and staff are our top priority. The hospital has taken immediate actions to address the issue with assistance from an outside expert.

Most people are exposed to legionella by breathing in small droplets of water or by accidentally swallowing water containing legionella into the lungs.

  • Bottled water is in use at BID Needham
  • Water from sinks may be used safely for hand washing
