Ranjna Sharma, MD, FACS, Named Co-Director of the Breast Care Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham

Sharma Returns to BID Needham to Co-Lead the Breast Care Center

Needham, Mass. – Ranjna Sharma, MD, FACS, has been named co-director of the Breast Care Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham (BID Needham). She will join Vandana Dialani, MD, as co-director. Previously, Sharma supported the center as co-director for two years from 2017 to 2019.

“We are pleased to announce Dr. Sharma as our new co-director of the Breast Care Center,” said John Fogarty, president of BID Needham. “Not only is Dr. Sharma a skilled surgeon, with very valuable experience in education and research, she is also a very compassionate caregiver and we are fortunate to have her in this role and to welcome her back to BID Needham.”

Most recently, Sharma was the medical director of the Breast Cancer Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University, where she was also an associate professor, and an attending surgeon at Auburn Community Hospital in New York for three years. Prior to that, she was the co-director of the Breast Care Center at BID Needham and an assistant professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School for two years. She was also an attending breast surgical oncologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for nine years.

Sharma graduated from Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2004. She performed her residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She then completed a Fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She has authored over 20 peer-reviewed research publications on breast cancer and breast cancer surgery and has contributed chapters to multiple medical education books. She is a current member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Last year, she was honored with the Exceptional Women in Medicine award, Top Doctor award, and America’s Most Honored Doctors award by Castle Connolly, a health research and information company.
