BID Needham Names New Board Chair, Trustees and Advisors
Needham, Mass. - At the recent Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham (BID Needham) Annual Meeting of the Boards of Trustees and Advisors, the hospital announced its new incoming chair of the Board of Trustees, Virginia Carnahan, along with two new members of the Board of Trustees and seven new members of the Board of Advisors. Gilda Barabino, MD, and Nassib Chamoun have joined the Board of Trustees. Seven additional individuals, including E. Phillip Trotter, Ryan O’Ramsay Barrett, Gretchen Cook Anderson, Torry Katsiroubas Stamm, Jasun Matthew Mahaffey, DMD, Carol Lisbon, and Nicole Stewart have joined the Board of Advisors.

Carnahan had served six years on the board as Trustee before being named incoming chair. “I’m excited to embark on this new role as chair of the Board of Trustees, continuing the momentum and progress of the last year,” said Carnahan. “I believe our strength at BID Needham is our devoted and passionate clinicians and staff, who bring world-class healthcare to our community of Needham.”
Fogarty was the keynote speaker for the annual meeting, entitled, A Year in Review and the Year Forward. “I am most proud of our people, the doctors, the nurses, the staff, continually confronted with challenge after challenge in a constantly changing environment,” said Fogarty. “The pandemic has wreaked havoc on the healthcare workforce. But we kept moving forward and did not lose focus. We continued to improve the patient experience. Our people continue to be our greatest asset.”
New Board of Trustees Members (By Town)
Gilda A. Barabino, PhD (Cambridge)
Barabino is president of Olin College of Engineering, as well as a professor of biomedical and chemical engineering at the school. She previously served as the Daniel and Frances Berg Professor and dean at The City College of New York’s (CCNY) Grove School of Engineering. Prior to joining CCNY, she was associate chair for graduate studies and professor of biomedical engineering in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory, where she also served as the inaugural vice provost for academic diversity. Prior to Georgia Tech and Emory, she rose to the rank of professor of chemical engineering and was vice provost for undergraduate education at Northeastern University. She is a noted investigator in the areas of sickle cell disease, cellular and tissue engineering, and the role of race/ethnicity and gender in science and engineering. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from Xavier University of Louisiana and a Doctorate of Chemical Engineering from Rice University.
Nassib Chamoun (Needham)
Nassib Chamoun is the founder, president and chief executive officer of Health Data Analytics Institute, and is the primary inventor of its broad-based health data analytics platform. Previously, Chamoun was founder, president and chief executive officer of Aspect Medical Systems. From 2009 to 2010, he assisted Covidien as the vice president of technology, research and clinical development. Chamoun earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from Boston University and conducted his graduate research in cardiac electrophysiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. He was also a teaching and visiting fellow in cardiovascular physiology at Harvard University. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Lown Institute from 2008-2020 where he remains active as Chairman Emeritus. Chamoun has been a member of the BID Needham Board of Advisors since 2014.

E. Philip Trotter (Boston)
E. Philip Trotter is a retired healthcare executive with more than 20 years in the field. Trotter’s healthcare career began at Multigroup Healthplan (HMO) in Wellesley MA. Trotter continued this role after Multigroup merged with Harvard Community Health Plan (HCHP), where he led the claims department for the Medical Groups Division. After HCHP, Trotter’s career included financial leadership positions at Healthcare Administrative Partners, and later at Dedham Medical Associates. Trotter’s most recent position was director of revenue cycle at Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston. Trotter has an undergraduate degree from New York University, where he studied finance and economics. In addition to his career positions, he served on the board of trustees for several not-for-profit organizations including the Walker School in Needham, Big Brother Big Sister in Framingham and the Friends of the Council on Aging in Dover.
Ryan O’Ramsay Barrett (Ashland)
Ryan Barrett is CEO of ORAM Corporate Advisors and has been with the company for more than 15 years. As a longtime cybersecurity specialist with deep knowledge of financial compliance, Barrett has worked in many different facets of IT and has significant expertise in project development along with a vast understanding of complex business procedures and corporate infrastructure. Before his work with ORAM Corporate Advisors, Barrett was vice president of network services with Essex Investment Management Co, LLC. In addition, Barrett was a consultant at Everynetwork, Inc., and the chief information technology officer at Jackson Construction. Barrett holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Gretchen Cook-Anderson (Framingham)
Gretchen Cook-Anderson is the inaugural executive director of Ignite a nonprofit (of Cambridge, MA-based parent organization LabCentral), whose mission is to cultivate greater diversity, equity and inclusive culture across the biotech industry. She is an active board member for several community-based organizations including the Needham Diversity Initiative, Facing History & Ourselves, North Hill Senior Community and Beacon Academy, and as well as at the independent schools Belmont Hill School & Dana Hall School. Cook-Anderson and speaks publicly through her consultancy, Global Divercity, and is the host of the Needham community-based television show Moving Forward Together with Equal Justice in Needham. Cook-Anderson received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Spelman College and completed a dual Master’s of Arts in International Economics/Japanese Studies at the Johns Hopkins University's Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.
Torry Katsiroubas Stamm (Needham)
Torry Katsiroubas Stamm is the president and fourth generation co‐owner of her family business, Katsiroubas Bros. Stamm became president and co-owner alongside her brother Ted after their father Nick passed away from ALS in 2013 in honor of whom she founded the Nick Katsiroubas Foundation. The mission of the Nick Katsiroubas Foundation is to continue her father’s legacy of giving with its current mission to support food insecurity in the community. Stamm earned her Bachelor’s in Communications from Boston College and her MBA from University of Massachusetts, Boston where she currently serves on the Advisory Board at the Graduate School of Management.
Jasun Matthew Mahaffey, DMD (South End)
Jasun Mahaffey, DMD, is an orthodontist at and co-owner of Epic Dental in Norwood, Mass. Prior to this role, Mahaffey (known as “Dr. Jasun”), had been in practice as an associate in various Massachusetts communities, as well as in the state of Maryland and Washington D.C. Mahaffey received his Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University and earned his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine, where he also served on the Academic Code of Conduct and Review Board, as a board member.
Carol Lisbon, Advisor Emeritus (Dover)
Carol Lisbon, having served three terms as selectman in the Town of Dover and been a member of many Dover committees, including Warrant, Capital Budget, and Long-range Planning, is currently chair of the Dover Planning Board and on the Open Space, Water Resource and Recycling Committees. Lisbon spent more than 20 years with Honeywell Information Systems as a marketing executive. Lisbon joined the BID Needham Board of Advisors in 2007 and served as chair from 2008 to 2012, giving her an ex-officio position on the Board of Trustees. She has been a member of the Board of Trustees in her own position since 2012. She currently is a member of the Patient and Family Advisory, and Governance and Nominating Committees. Ms. Lisbon earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan and her Master of Business Administration from Boston University. Ms. Lisbon has been a weekly volunteer at BID Needham for more than 10 years.
Nicole Stewart (Newton)
Nicole Stewart is the principal and founder of Possibilities Here, Inc., a non-profit founded in 2014 missioned to break the cycles of poverty and abuse experienced by young women in and from the foster care system. In 2021, she created the Young Women's Leadership Development program and partnered with Community Work Services to broaden her reach and expand young women's opportunities to become self-sufficient. Stewart has more than 25 years of combined experience in school administration and executive leadership. Stewart has previously served as the turnaround CEO for Homes for Families, a statewide policy advocacy organization for Emergency Assistance Shelters committed to ending family homelessness; program director for the Bridge Home Starr Program, a short-term residential stabilization program for children in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCF); executive director for Blue Hill Boys and Girls Club of Boston; academy director for Orchard Gardens K-8 Pilot School; and METCO director for Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. Stewart holds a Master of Educational Leadership from Boston College and a Master of Social Work from Simmons College.
