Needham, Mass. – Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham (BID Needham) has named inpatient physical therapist Laura Black, PT, DPT, its Employee of the Year, in recognition of her clinical expertise and commitment to her colleagues, patients and the hospital. BID Needham also honored milestone years of employment for 81 individuals and their 875 years of combined service to the Beth Israel Lahey Health system.

“Laura was nominated by her colleagues for her professional judgment and going above and beyond to provide a helping hand to anyone who needs it,” said John Fogarty, president of BID-Needham. “Each year, we are proud to recognize the employees who have chosen to spend their careers with us and are fortunate to have such dedicated employees.”

“I am truly honored to receive this award,” said Black. “I am proud to be an employee of BID Needham, where we have a close-knit community that feels like family.”

As an inpatient physical therapist, Black works with patients to improve their strength, flexibility, pain and endurance. Black received her bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science from Simmons University and her doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from Syracuse University. She has been an inpatient physical therapist at BID Needham for the past three years and serves on several hospital committees, including the Falls Committee, the Rewards and Recognition Committee and the Street Team. She lives in Wellesley with her husband, Anthony, who is also a physical therapist, and their young son.

The Employee of the Year selection is based on peer nominations submitted to a committee that evaluates each nomination for consistent demonstration of the hospital’s core values of accountability, compassion, professionalism and respectfulness. BID Needham honored 80 hospital employees for five, 10, 15, 25, 35, 40, 45 and 50 years of service.
